Okotoks Dayhome Providers is a support group for caregivers in the Foothills area run by moms who volunteer their time. We are not an agency nor do we screen or regulate our members. We are happy to introduce you to the information we have researched, but always recommend you do your own research & retain legal advise where necessary. Our group welcomes nannies, private & licensed day homes and casual child care providers.

There are many ways you can choose to run your childcare business. Some things to consider are:
- What ages of children you will accept? (babies. preschoolers, before & after school)
- Can you accommodate school PD days & summer break?
- What will you charge? (hourly, daily, monthly, flat-rate, etc.)
- Will you have set policies & a contract? A deposit?
- Will you run a licensed or private dayhome?
These and many other issues are often discussed at meetings.

Already Established?
Our group is active in the community with field trips and regular days at the library, Mountain Shadows, Playtopia, park play days and other special days. Some of our past field trips include Sobey's, fire hall, McDonald's, vet, Okotoks Air Ranch, Chinook Honey Farm, petting zoo, water parks, etc.
By meeting with other day homes, you may be able to arrange for vacation relief. Or as some have already done, casual care that allows them the freedom to go to doctor's appointments, volunteer at their child's school or to other appointments that can be difficult to book time off for.

Workshops & Training
Many child care workshops are available that are specifically tailored to day homes. Our group has attended conferences in Calgary and have invited guest speakers to meetings. We also book CPR & first aid training recerts as needed. Several seminars are listed in the resource box that vary from new dayhome information to early childhood education.
Meetings
Meetings are usually held monthly except during summer break. We understand that we each have busy schedules & try to alter the days to allow everyone the opportunity to attend. Members can join our Facebook event page &/or receive our emails for the latest updates.
